“Reign of the Supermen” New York Premiere Recap

The highly anticipated DC Animated Film “Reign of the Supermen” debuted this week in New York City at the Directors Guild of America on Monday night as the fans and the press attended the screening. The reception of the film has been very positive and the developers of the film did a great job of not only keeping up with the source material to the story from the comics, but to also give us a great narrative of how the world is affected after Superman meet his demise. Lois Lane (voiced by Rebecca Romjin) is the star of the film as her character was affected by this the most and Superboy (voiced by Cameron Monaghan) was more than just a comic relief character. He was struggling to find himself and his own identity since he found out the truth of how his DNA was manipulated. Other characters played a major role in this movie that was relevant to the story was Steel (Cress Williams), Cyborg Superman (Patrick Fabian), Batman (Jason O’ Mara), Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson), Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), The Flash (Christopher Gorham), Darkseid (Tony Todd), and Lex Luthor (Rainn Wilson). I love the movie and I thought the entire time when I watched the film is that this is how Justice League (2017) should have followed up with the story.

I also attended the red carpet event as the cast and directors were there for interviews and I got a chance to speak with Rebecca Romjin, Jerry O’ Connell, Tony Todd, and Cress Williams about the movie along with funny stories about how they all got in character. You can check it out below.

After the screening, The cast and developers took the stage to answer questions to the fans. Also, it was announced that later this year, There will be a Blu-Ray combo of both Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen in one package that will contain those movies along with exclusive content and never before seen scenes. Also, five lucky members of the audience won the Blu-Ray edition of Reign of the Supermen after the panel as well.

Reign of the Supermen finds Earth’s citizens – and the Man of Steel’s heroic contemporaries – dealing with a world without Superman. But the aftermath of Superman’s death, and the subsequent disappearance of his body, leads to a new mystery – is Superman still alive? The question is further complicated when four new super-powered individuals – Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Eradicator – emerge to proclaim themselves as the ultimate hero. In the end, only one will be able to proclaim himself the world’s true Superman.

Reign of the Supermen is the second half of a two-part DC Universe Movies experience that began in August 2018 with The Death of Superman – the two films telling a more faithful animated version of “The Death of Superman,” DC’s landmark 1992-93 comic phenomenon. Superman Doomsday, the inaugural film in the DC Universe Movies series, told an abridged version of that comics story, but with a runtime of 75 minutes, the film was only able to focus on a core, singular storyline. The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen restore many of the moments and characters that fans hold dear to their hearts.

The Reign of the Supermen all-star cast is led by Jerry O’Connell (Carter, Bravo’s Play by Play, Stand by Me), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men, The Librarians) and Rainn Wilson (The Office, The Meg) as the voices of Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, respectively. The potent trio is joined by the DC Universe Movies’ returning voices of the Justice League: Jason O’Mara (The Man in the High Castle, Terra Nova) as Batman, Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Rent, Daredevil) as Wonder Woman, Shemar Moore (S.W.A.T., Criminal Minds) as Cyborg, Nathan Fillion (Castle, The Rookie) as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan, Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs, Insatiable, Ugly Betty) as The Flash, and Nyambi Nyambi (Mike & Molly, The Good Fight) as Martian Manhunter.

Newly featured cast members include Cress Williams (Black Lightning) as Steel, Cameron Monaghan (Gotham) as Superboy, Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul) as Hank Henshaw, and Tony Todd (Candyman) as Darkseid. In addition, the cast includes Charles Halford (Constantine) as Bibbo Bibbowski and The Eradicator, Rocky Carroll (NCIS) as Perry White, Toks Olagundoye (Castle) as Cat Grant, Max Mittleman (Justice League Action) as Jimmy Olsen, Paul Eiding (Ben 10: Omniverse) as Jonathan Kent, Jennifer Hale (Green Lantern: The Animated Series) as Martha Kent, Trevor Devall (Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay) as Dabney Donovan and Erica Luttrell (Salvation) as Mercy.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment, the feature-length animated Reign of the Supermen arrives from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Digital starting January 15, 2019, and on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack on January 29, 2019.

Landmark 1,000th Issue Features Jim Lee Cover Revealing New Costume

Landmark 1,000th Issue Features Jim Lee Cover Revealing New Costume

Brian Michael Bendis Debuts First Story for DC DC Veteran Writer Marv Wolfman to Script Story Based On Unpublished Art by Golden and Silver Age Icon Curt Swan All-Star Lineup of Contributors Includes Richard Donner, Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, Pat Gleason, Dan Jurgens, Brad Meltzer, Louise Simonson, Jerry Ordway, Tom King, Scott Snyder and More

DC is going all-out to celebrate the one-thousandth issue of ACTION COMICS—the longest continually published comic book of its kind in history, the series that introduced Superman to the world and the title that launched the superhero genre. The Jim Lee-drawn cover features a new costume that integrates a variety of classic and new elements, including the Man of Steel’s trademark red trunks.

“ACTION COMICS #1000 represents a watershed moment in the history of not just comic books, but entertainment, literature and pop culture,” said Lee. “There’s no better way to celebrate Superman’s enduring popularity than to give him a look that combines some new accents with the most iconic feature of his classic design.”

Available at comics retailers and digitally on April 18, ACTION COMICS #1000 features the DC debut of acclaimed writer Brian Michael Bendis in a 10-page Superman story featuring art by DC publisher and celebrated artist Jim Lee. This milestone issue will also include two 15-page stories from two of DC’s current and most popular talent teams: SUPERMAN writer Peter J. Tomasi and artist Pat Gleason, as well as ACTION COMICS writer and artist Dan Jurgens.

“The one-thousandth issue of ACTION COMICS is an incredible milestone in pop culture and a testament to the vision of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster,” said DC publisher Dan DiDio. “Without this book, along with Siegel and Shuster’s fertile imaginations and boundless creativity, the superhero’s place in literature may have been wildly different, if not altogether nonexistent.”

This must-have collector’s item comic book will also feature previously unpublished art from Curt Swan, whose dynamic, iconic style many consider the definitive look for the Man of Steel throughout comics’ Golden and Silver Ages. Acclaimed DC writer Marv Wolfman will script a story based on this never-before-seen content. In addition, the comic will include a collection of memorable bonus stories from some of the most celebrated names in comics and entertainment.

Contributors to this once-in-a-lifetime issue include legendary Superman movie director Richard Donner and New York Times best-selling writer Geoff Johns, with art by Olivier Coipel. Other contributing creative teams will include Paul Dini with José Luis García-López; Tom King with Clay Mann and Jordie Bellaire; Brad Meltzer with John Cassaday and Laura Martin; Louise Simonson with Jerry Ordway; Scott Snyder with Tim Sale and more to be announced. This celebratory comic book is just the beginning; this milestone will be recognized across the DC superhero line for the month of April with a series of Superman-themed variant covers and even more to come. Check out the website at www.dccomics.com or the DC YouTube channel for the latest news regarding Krypton’s last son and his elevation to pop culture icon.

Diamond Select Toys Superman Resin Bust review.

image

By Steven Biscotti

Diamond Select Toys is at it again with their DC animated collectibles line.  This time it isn’t for The Dark Knight though.  This time it’s for none other than the grandfather of all super heroes – The Man of Steel himself, Superman!

image

Diamond Select Toys excited fans and collectors when they revealed their plans for Warner Bros. popular DC animated series like “Batman” and “Justice League” during Toy Fair 2015.  The one line noticeably absent, just like DC Collectibles, was products from “Superman: The Animated Series.”  It was something that I took notice of immediately as I’m not only a fan of The Last Son of Krypton but also a big fan of “Superman: The Animated Series.”  When it was finally revealed that we’d be getting collectibles based off of Bruce Timm’s successful follow up to “Batman: The Animated Series”, I was very happy.

image

So far Diamond Select Toys (DST) have released four statues and busts based off of “Superman: The Animated Series.”  We have two Femme Fatales vinyl statues of Supergirl, one resin bust of her, and now one of her cousin, Kal-El.  Superman is undoubtedly the hero most collectors and fans have been waiting for since the release of Batman last summer 2015.  Let me tell you, he was well worth the wait.

image

Diamond Select Toys’ Superman resin bust stands at 6″ tall and has some weight to him.  Just like the Supergirl resin bust statue that released in March, both kryptonians are featured a top a base bringing to mind the art deco of the animated series – a futuristic city building in Metropolis.  Featuring a sculpt by Varner Studios, the Superman resin bust captures the charm of the animated series and perfectly captures the identifiable art design of Bruce Timm’s Superman.  If you liked the animated series, this resin bust is a must have and if you just like Superman, the bust is quite simply so Superman-ish, that you’ll find it difficult to pass him up at your local comic shop next time you’re there.

The Superman Resin Bust by Diamond Select Toys is available now and retails for $59.99
