Avengers vs X-Men Minimates

A few months ago, Diamond Select Toys asked you to vote on the next exclusive box set of Marvel Minimates for Toys “R” Us, based on the blockbuster Avengers vs. X-Men crossover event. The poll pitted three Avengers against three members of the Phoenix Five, with dominance of the box set hanging in the balance. Well, now the results are in!

The Avengers were the clear winners, with Phoenix Buster Iron Man, the Scarlet Witch and Protector taking three of the four spots in the set, with the remaining slot filled by Phoenix Five leader Cyclops! Plus, Iron Man’s armor will open up to reveal a more bare-bones Iron Man Minimate inside! Phoenix Five Emma Frost and Colossus may not have made the cut this time around, but don’t count them out yet –they’ve both cheated death more than once.

Check out the figures below, and look for the set in Toys “R” Us stores (and at toysrus.com) this holiday season!

The Disney Store Rings Out the Year with Three Marvel Select Exclusives!

http://www.artasylum.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/DisneyLizard_boxfront.jpg

Marvel toy collectors just got another reason to put the nearest Disney Store in their GPS. After partnering with Diamond Select Toys on four exclusive Marvel Select Avengers figures and two exclusive Amazing Spider-Man movie figures, the Disney Store has teamed up with DST yet again, to deliver three new Marvel Select figures that collectors will be dying to own!

The first figure (available now) is the Savage Hulk, a new, modern Hulk based on artist Marc Silvestri’s rendering of the character in recent issues of the Incredible Hulk from Marvel Comics. Depicting a more intelligent version of the Hulk than previous Select offerings, this figure was sculpted by frequent Marvel Select contributor Jean St. Jean, and stands over 9 inches tall with 16 points of articulation.

The next figure is the Lizard, the longtime foe of Spider-Man and his opponent in this past summer’s Amazing Spider-Man movie. While the Marvel Select line has given us the Lizard as he appeared in the film, this all-new sculpt by Gabriel Marquez (who did MS Magneto) is the line’s first rendering of Dr. Curt Connors based on his classic comic-book appearance. Sporting 16 points of articulation, including double-jointed knees, he stands over 8 inches tall (when not crouching to attack an innocent human) and comes with a New York City street display base.

The third new Marvel Select figure is Flash Thompson as Venom! Flash Thompson is not only the latest host to wear the Venom symbiote, he’s also the one with the most training. A decorated soldier before he lost his legs in the Middle East, Flash uses the Venom suit to undertake dangerous missions for the government, and to complete his missing limbs. This 7-inch figure, also by St. Jean, comes with two weapons and 16 points of articulation and comes packaged with a wreckage-strewn display base.

All of these figures come packaged in the famous bookshelf-ready Select packaging, but for those of you just starting your Marvel Select collection, both the Lizard and Venom will also come packaged in the first-ever Marvel Select box set! The Spider-Man: Fearsome Foes box set includes Spider-Man, Lizard, Venom and the Green Goblin, and this set, like the individual figures, is only available at the Disney Store, as well as at marvelstore.com and disneystore.com. Look for them this holiday season!

Shellhead (Iron man) Jersey Review

Well Ladies and Gentlemen the moment has arrived…we are proud to bring to you our review of the Shellhead (Iron man) Jersey from our friends at Rink Gear aka. Geeky Jerseys.
If you caught our previous post about Rink Gear you’ll know they are a business dedicated to offering fully customized hockey gear. From digital printing to embroidery, they offer a wide range of professional level jerseys for all levels of play. Rink Gear also provides a graphic service to ensure they meet and exceed your needs. Their mission and guarantee is to offer the highest quality at the lowest price.
On with the review though! Firstly I will say the turnaround time is fantastic for what are fully customized pieces of kit; you’re probably talking about 8 weeks from the end of the selling window until it is ready to be shipped to you. Shipping is also very fast, we are based in Northern Ireland and got our jersey within a week of it being shipped out; this should mean that those of you on the other side of the pond can expect to get yours even more quickly.
On to the actual jersey itself, it is an absolutely beautiful piece of kit. You can see and feel the quality as soon as you remove it from the bag. It feels like a proper hockey jersey because it is a proper hockey jersey, not one of these lightweight wannabe jerseys you see advertised. The colours (yes colours not colors – we are in the UK of course) are vibrant and in your face, the stitching on the different sections/name/numbers is really high quality and far better than most hockey jerseys I have played in. Then of course you have the main piece of the jersey, the Arc Reactor! This just makes the jersey stand out even more. If someone doesn’t realise what jersey this is from a distance then they’ll realise as soon as they get that little bit closer! The same goes for the quality of all Geeky Jerseys that Rink Gear make.
On ice the jersey is exactly what you expect, a top quality jersey that does the job that is required of it. Don’t get me wrong, I know the vast majority of these jerseys will never be worn on ice but having worn Shellhead in full kit I can guarantee you it holds up fantastically.
Most of you though, who get a jersey from Rink Gear/Geeky Jerseys, will be wearing them casually and I can tell you this…be prepared for loads of attention! I wore the Shellhead jersey to my local professional team (The Belfast Giants) game this past weekend and people couldn’t stop commenting on the jersey and asking where I had got it from, even the players where coming up and asking about it.
So to summarise…Geeky Jerseys provide a fantastic service for something so specialised. They keep bringing us jersey after jersey that you just want! Be it Iron man, Captain America, Batman, Zelda, Doctor Who or Star Wars and this is to name but a few. Operation Retroshock cannot recommend these guys to you more, go ahead treat yourself, you won’t regret it.
