Avengers find their witch in Olsen

“Oldboy” actress Elizabeth Olsen has confirmed what Samuel L. Jackson let out of the bag more than a month ago: that she’ll reunite with her “Godzilla” co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the brother-sister pair Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch in Marvel’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

“We get to play husband and wife, and we get to play twin brother and sister,” Olsen told MTV, joking that Jackson freed her from the “awkwardness” of sidestepping questions about the sequel. “It’s also fun because even though in ‘Godzilla’ we play husband and wife, we don’t have a lot of scenes together. I just love him, I love his family, I love his kids. I’m so excited … to actually work with each other. I think it’s going to be fun.”

Although the actress conceded she doesn’t know many details about the role — she hasn’t even seen costume designs — she had plenty of praise for writer-director Joss Whedon. “He’s very smart. He’s too smart. He might be too smart,” Olsen said. “Some people are too smart for their own good, but he’s amazing.”

Olsen, the younger sister of “Full House” veterans Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, landed her breakthrough role in the 2011 indie drama “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” appearing alongside John Hawkes, Sarah Paulson and Hugh Dancy. She’ll next be seen in Spike Lee’s “Oldboy” remake, which opens Nov. 27.

“The Avengers: Age of Ultron” arrives May 1, 2015.

Valiant is proud to announce that Christopher Priest and M.D. Bright, the acclaimed creators of Quantum and Woody, will reunite for Q2: The Return of Quantum and Woody – an all-new, five-issue mini-series bringing the original world’s worst superhero team into the 21st century!
Set wholly in the original continuity of Priest and Bright’s groundbreaking Acclaim Comics series, the new mini – which represents the return of both creators to monthly comics – will pick up in the modern day, launching an older Quantum and Woody into an all-new adventure set 20 years after the events of their original series.
“Soon as Doc and I started hashing out the plotline, we got into a huge argument. It was just like old times. Happy to be back on the goat,” said Priest.
“It’s enormously exciting to have Priest and Doc return to the iconic characters they made famous,” said Valiant Executive Editor Warren Simons. “Over the years, the legend of the original series has only grown, and they’re about to unleash a fearless new chapter in the lives of Quantum and Woody.”
Whatever happened to the world’s worst superhero team? Twenty years past their prime, the unlikely crime-fighting duo known as Quantum and Woody have long since parted ways and retired…until a middle-aged Quantum suddenly reappears with a brand-new teenage partner—and his wisecracking ex-best friend gets mad. Now Woody is out to break up the all-new, all-different Quantum and Woody and put an end to Quantum’s recklessness and child endangerment…just as Quantum sets out to bring down a shadowy, globe-spanning agency of freelance spies and assassins. As Quantum’s plan crumbles right through Woody’s fingers, will the former friends set aside their differences…and their age…and their numerous health difficulties…to join forces one last time without driving each other crazy?
A veteran writer and editor with more than 35 years experience in the comic book industry, Christopher J. Priest has written nearly every major character in comics, with notable runs on series including Action Comics, Amazing Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain America, Conan the Barbarian, Deadpool, and many more.
M.D. Bright began his career in comics in 1978 and has worked consistently on some of the industry’s most popular and enduring titles ever since. One of the all-time definitive artists of Green Lantern, Iron Man, and G.I. Joe, Bright has also contributed to Batman, Captain America, Thor, Wonder Woman and countless others.

Marvel Knights Animation’s WOLVERINE: ORIGIN is finally here! July 9th!

 by

Wow. Shout Factory has a new release dropping on July 9th and it’s their best one yet!

The movie is based on the Origin mini series (November 2001 – March 2002) written by Joe Quesada, Paul Jenkins and Bill Jemas with artwork by Andy Kubert and Richard Isanove. I was reading comics in 2001 but didn’t buy Origin.

Origin_Vol_1_1

Don’t get me wrong it looked gorgeous! But my love for the Wolverine character came while reading the four issue mini from Claremont and Miller in 1982. I really never felt the character needed a solid past, the wandering ronin whose power set and origin remained a mystery worked for me. But when this dvd landed on my desk I gave it a shot.

To say this production is anything less than beautiful would do it a disservice. It is amazingly well animated, the artwork just as beautiful as in the mini series.

Most of us are familiar with this origin, it’s the one touched on in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine (though I think there are a few differences). James Howlett is a sickly young boy living in late 19th century Canada. A member of an upper class family, a family rife with intrigue and stress. Little does that young man know that all the problems of his short life will culminate in the genesis of his mutation. The revelation of which will send him running from everything he knows and set him on the path to becoming the man we know as Logan!

I truly enjoyed this, it was fun to watch, it was beautiful to look at, and it was well acted. I can’t give it a higher rating, 5 out of 5. And as usual with Marvel Knight’s Animation there a great extra in the form of interviews with the people who created the film and worked on the Origin mini series!

Order it today from amazon (orders and pre-orders) or pick it up at your local comic shop on July 9th!

Forever Evil – New mini-series ignites lively discussion, near firing of reporter and,… a love letter to Geoff Johns????

by

Chuck:

“Forever Evil” Launching in September, the seven-part mini-series will be written by DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Johns.
Yeah! I mean Booo. Or is it meh?

Personally I’m no fan of John’s.  I found his work on Lantern boring and convoluted. Thoughts?

http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/25877.html

Oh September is also Villain’s month each title will get a one shot villain book.

Roe:

The term “universe-wide crossover event” makes me cringe. Because I don’t want to buy 500 titles I don’t normally read just to know what Batgirl’s latest issue means. These crossovers are one of the reasons I stopped reading comics 13 years ago.

Having said that, I like the Villain Month idea. One shots, I like. I can buy my Joker issue and be happy.

Chuck:

I agree Roe that’s why I gave up on ever knowing all the subtle nuances of any comic universe.
I still don’t know exactly how Damian died. I’ll find out sooner or later I guess.

Roe:

I almost bought the Batman Inc. issue, but realized I was getting sucked in again. Why did I want it? I didn’t know what was going on in that storyline. I read Batgirl and occasionally, Batman and Nightwing. So I don’t know how Damian died, but it’s moot since he’ll be back, I’ll wager, by Fall.

Rob Base:

Hey DC welcome to “Marvel” 1987, Geoff is over rated and he will never be a Mark Waid.

Geoff only looks good because he is at DC. I hate these giant cross overs. I didn’t mind them once every few years but its the norm now.

This is another reason that I’ll just read Wikipedia

Bob:

Guess its just me. Sorry I have this bad habit of collecting superhero books because they’re fun. And everyone loves villains. I probably won’t get every crossover except the titles I get monthly. Or if it’s a villain that particularly interests me.
I believe they’re doing them as point one issues so you can actually just skip that one if it offends you so much.
I’d like to point out this is The New 52s FIRST company wide crossover and others have been contained with in the family titles and it’s happening in September which has become DCs event month ( new 52 and Zero issues)
I’m a big John’s fan and so I have confidence this will be well done and built from his ongoing threads in the JLA and JL titles. ( and if you think Catwoman is really dead … I feel bad for you ).
Comics are supposed to be fun to read above all else or what’s the point. A month full of villains showcased… Sounds fun to me

Rob Base:

Ok Chuck you need to fire Bob lol. I wish it was as simple as just liking fun books. I love fun books give me Secret Wars back any day. Hell Onslaught was amazing but it becomes tiring after a while to have mass cross overs.
