espnW Teams with Marvel Comics for “Super” Take on 2015 “IMPACT25” List

November 19, 2015 – espnW has teamed with Marvel Comics to create “super” takes on the 2015 “IMPACT25” list, which recognizes athletes and influencers who have made the biggest mark on women in sports this year – 24 nominees, plus The espnW Woman of the Year. A collection of Marvel artists will utilize their various creative styles to highlight the special talents of the honorees and create a super version of each.

To kick off the series, Marvel created an illustration of U.S. Women’s National Team star Carli Lloyd alongside popular Marvel Super Hero, Captain Marvel. Lloyd’s memorable and indefatigable play during the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup resulted in her team hoisting the trophy as champions and earned her the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament. The full roster and artist renditions of the 2015 “IMPACT25” list will be revealed Monday, Dec. 7, on espnW.com/impact25.

“Each of the IMPACT25 honorees is incredible in their own right, be it on the field or in the boardroom,” said Alison Overholt, editor-in-chief, espnW. “There have been some truly superhuman accomplishments in the last year, and there is no one better than the artists of Marvel to depict these women as the heroes that they are.”

As part of the collaboration, the hosts of the women of Marvel podcast – Sana Amanat, Adri Cowan, Judy Stephens and Emily Shaw – will be guests on the espnW Presents: Be Honest with Cari Champion podcast, debuting December 7, and will also welcome Overholt and espnW deputy editor Jennifer Holmes on Women of Marvel on a date to be determined. In addition, espnW.com will have exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the process of transforming these real-life heroes into larger-than-life Super Heroes.

Some of the groundbreakers on last year’s IMPACT25 included: The espnW Woman of the Year, Becky Hammon, who became the first woman to hold a coaching position in the NBA; Michele Roberts, who made history as the first female executive director of the National Basketball Players Association; Condoleezza Rice, whose appointment to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee made headlines across the country; tennis star Serena Williams, who overcame several injuries to end the year as the world No. 1; and Little League phenom Mo’ne Davis, whose 70 mph fastball made her a household name.

We’re still a few weeks away from the debut of DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE (on sale 11/25), but that doesn’t mean we’re gonna stop whetting your appetites with more from the upcoming chapters in this highly anticipated saga!

Feast your eyes on some new artwork for Book 2, on sale December 23:

First up, Eduardo Risso’s been working overtime on DKIII, and his efforts have yielded pure gold. The Amazon Warrior, Wonder Woman is the featured character in the “DARK KNIGHT UNIVERSE PRESENTS” mini comic bound into each copy of Book 2, and she looks like she’s ready to take on anything or anybody!

Risso isn’t stopping there; he’s also working on a 1 in 50 variant cover for the Book 2, with Batman looking as menacing and mean as ever! Keep an eye out at your local retailer for this one!

Superstar artist Cliff Chiang is also contributing to the cause, with this sweet 1 in 10 variant cover homage to DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, with Carrie (Robin) Kelly helping an injured Batman after his first encounter with the Mutant Leader.

And what would a set of variant covers be without representation from the Man himself? Here’s Frank Miller’s rendition of the Dark Knight; this art will be the basis for his 1 in 100 variant cover for Book 2. Even beaten, bloodied and bruised, Batman still looks like a character you don’t want to mess with!

Iron Man goes global from Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev

All-new series to be translated to reflect the languages of select countries worldwide

New York, NY — October 26^th, 2015 — In 2016, Tony Stark is establishing the entire world his base of operations and taking Iron Man internationally with the help of Brian Michael Bendis (Invincible Iron Man, Daredevil, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Alex Maleev (Daredevil, Moon Knight) in the all-new Marvel series,INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN.

As technology and globalization continue to reduce the size of the world stage, Marvel continues to reflect the world outside our windows and brings the “Golden Avenger” to defend the globe.  “I think we all, no matter where we are in our lives, feel that the world has gotten much smaller,” said Bendis while speaking with Entertainment Weekly. “We can all reach out to each other no matter where we are in the world. We feel each other’s pains and victories. I think for Tony it’s like that times 100. He’s much more aware of the global situation and how a big fight with Galactus in New York would affect things in other parts of the world.”

Tony Stark is a futurist. He anticipates threats to come and plans for them. That mentality is what leads Tony to take Iron Man out of New York and proactively taking on threats across the globe.  “If I was a villain, New York is the last place I’d attack, because you know, just by math, there are 700 superheroes in a 17-block radius. I’d go anywhere else,” explains Bendis. “We’ll be dealing with some of the criminals in the Marvel Universe who are smart enough to put that together in their head finally. Tony’s gonna be racing to help people that don’t necessarily always get the attention of the Marvel superheroes.”

Accompanying Iron Man on his new global – an unlikely partner who knows everything there is to know about the dark underbelly of the Marvel Universe – Doctor Doom! “Doom knows where the bodies are buried…he knows a lot of stuff that Tony doesn’t know.”

Additionally, not only will Iron Man reach out worldwide, but so will the actual published comic book. Working with a number of Marvel licensees,INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN will be translated into the respected languages of 25 different countries and will be printed for over 40 different countries in English.
