Last week’s episode, we seen the debut of Dwight on Fear and it is one of my favorite epiasodes of the series for reasons I explained on my review of last week’s episode. How does Fear follow that awesome debut one week later? By having an episode that is very puzzling and good at the same time. There are moments that will have your head scratching at least seven times during the episode, But it is up to you to judge when that happens. There is also an awesome moment as well, but I will save it for now as I deep right into the fourth episode of Fear The Walking Dead titled “Skidmark”.

As you know by now, Skidmark is the name of Daniel’s cute little cat and the episode begins as he and Skidmark are shown bonding as Daniel puts on a record player and also puts the colar on him along with him taking down a few walkers in one area. Then while he is at the abandoned supermarket, he sees a door gun trap at the front of the supermarket that is inside. He triggers the trap and he is lucky that the machine gun did not get him. He also takes down another walker after the trap triggered. He then enters the store to take the supplies and guns and marks down the traps on the map. He also says that there are three more traps too. After he puts the guns and supplies away, he makes himself dinner which is tomato soup.

Later in the night, Strand, Wendell, Sarah, and Charlie are back at Daniel’s location as Charlie tries to infiltrate the area. She is almost caught, but she ends up in Daniel’s car and hides there. No luck for her as Daniel decides to drive the car that she is in. In the morning, Juliana gives Dylan Breakfast as Morgan contacts the rest of the gang. Dylan begins to talk to Morgan and the rest as Morgan assures him that he does not have to be afraid of them. Dylan asks them if they will leave once they get the plane as we then transition to Strand and the rest as they plan to hijack the plane that they found. Unbeknowist to them, Daniel knows that they are taking the plane as he left a note on the window. Strand and Daniel then talk on the radio as Daniel says that he will make his promise if Strand and the rest are still there when he comes back. Sarah then tells Daniel over the radio that he should just give them the plane and they will leave afterwards. Daniel then tells her to stay away from him and he also says that “he sent a child to do their dirty work”. He even says that he will save Charlie from Strand. Strand, Sarah, and Wendell try to come up with a plan to get Charlie back and Daniel tells Charlie that he will not hurt her at all and she also sees the map of the trap locations and she asks him if he set them up in which he replied by saying that he did not.

Back to Dylan and Luciana as they talk about the book she wanted him to read and gives him an explanation of the book. After she leaves the area, Dylan contacts Max and Annie on the radio as we see more walkers tied together for a road block. It was also there that we see one of the helicopter group’s members (now known as the initinals CRM) taking down walkers as Max and Annie hide. Daniel and Skidmark are at another store that is not only full of walkers, but also by another machinegun trap. Charlie tells him the plan of how to get the gun without getting caught by the dead. She sounds very resourceful so I will give her that. Her and Charlie also talk about the place and then proceeded to their plan as Skidmark attracts the walkers at the window as Daniel and Charlie try to open the back door as the gun trap goes off. They left the area once the windows got shot out as the walkers walk out of the store.

Daniel tells her that they will lead the walkers to a location and take them down one by one. And then we go back to Morgan as he takes down a walker that was attracted by the caged pigeons. Dylan tells them to go away from the forest and also admitted that he lied to the group because he and his brother and sister is scared. Max and Annie also had a close call with walkers and they leave the area as well. Daniel and Strand are on the radio as Charlie also tells them that there is a herd behind them. Daniel then tells Charlie to drive and to take the plane and leave. Charlie then gives the items needed for the plane to Strand and Strand apologizes to Daniel for what happened at the damn a few seasons ago. Charlie then says to the rest that they cannot leave him there by himself trying to take out those walkers.

Max and Annie had another close call with walkers until Morgan and Alicia finally saves them. After that, more teenagers surround the both of them. At the same time, Daniel is still walking with the herd behind him as the music from his radio is attracting them. Sarah tells Daniel to get in the van as the walkers are about to take him out. Sarah tried to do a rapid fire of machine guns from the van but it did not fire at all and then Daniel crawled under the van. Strand then attracts the walkers to the spinners of the plane to chop them down and this scene was gory and also fun to look at as those walkers were chopped to bits and pieces. Daniel finally gives in and tells Strand that he will not shoot him in the face.

Annie then contacts Dylan and the rest of the teenagers put their guns down after Annie convinced were convinced that they are not bad people. before that continues, Daniel tells Charlie, Strand, Wendell, and Sarah that they can stay over there until the plane gets fixed. Morgan also talks about his wife and son to Alicia in a heartwarming conversation but before they can continue, the episode ends as everyone gets on the ground to see the helicopter and the kids are also aware of the group as well.

Although there were good moments on this episode with my favorite parts that involved Daniel and Strand and the gory walker kill montage, and the ending, the story has not moved much. The three kids can begin to get annoying to the viewers and I can see why since it has turned into a cat and mouse game since the first episode. I did liked the episode, but I felt underwhelmed with the plot. Hopefully, we get to find out the idenities of the Helicopter Group very soon as well.

Julian’s Thoughts: Very Expensive Comic Books That are also Controversial

When you go to your local comic book store, you want to check out the newest comic book on sale, or the rarest on the shelves that you know you might afford it or not. It happens every week across the world no matter how old you are. Because of this, you are passionate for comic books and what stories they bring to us in a monthly or bi-monthly basis. With all of that said, there are also very controversial comic books that were either a low print run, called back to reprint them, taken off sale, etc. The reasons to why these comic books faced those situations were due to backlash from readers, fans, or even congress itself. These are the controversial comic books that are now very expensive. If you put the controversy aside of these twelve issues, it is very sought after and if you have one of these copies, the stories you can tell of why it is controversial will have curious people talking.

12. Lois Lane #106 (Estimated Value:$100) (1970)

The cover alone is a dead giveaway to why this book is controversial. From the imagery, to the sub title “I Am Curious (BLACK)!” everything about this cover makes you think “what they were thinking at the time”. It is a racially insenstitive story where Lois Lane utilizes technology that changes her race so that she can experience life as a black woman and to go undercover. At the time this comic was released, the civil rights movement of the 1960’s were still in effect and to read through the pages for the reader to see Lois Lane change her race just so she can experience what everyone else was going through is jaw dropping. The issue tackles those issues such as prejudice, racism, and bigitory and Robert Kanigher did not pull any punches at all to exploit that.

11. Rise of the Black Panther #1 and Mighty Thor #700 Variant Covers (Estimated Value: $300-$1000) (2018)

When something is signed in blood, you know for sure it is serious. The controversy here is that the ink that was on the signature for both of these variant covers contained Stan Lee’s blood. It was also issued a numbered hologram sticker with the words “Hands of Respect” on the cover as well. Things got worse in April 2018 when news broke that a former business associate of the comic book icon Stan Lee allegedly presented forged documents to his personal nurse that gave permission to draw blood from Stan Lee. It does not get as cold blooded as that.

10. Avengers: Custom Edition #1 (Estiated Value: $250) (2017)

The cover of this issue is innocent at a first glance, until you botice that the Northrop Grumman logo is on he bottom of the cover. It was announced in 2017 that these two companies will have a partnership starting with the release of this issue at New York Comic Con and next thing you know, the Twitter feed blew up and even protests were about to begin. The reason for this, is because Northrop is a weapons manufatcure for war. Marvel then announced that the partnership has ended a few days later and pulled the comic from various retailers. So far, only one known copy has sold for $250.

9. Action Comics #869 (Estimated Value: $90) (2008)

The first print of the cover shows Superman holding a beer after that, many issues were pulled and recalled. After that, the second print reedited the beer to make it look like a soda bottle. Nothing more to say here as the first print was a low print run and it is hard to find on various auction sites.

8. July 1990 Issue of Heavy Metal (Estimated Value: $150)

This issue did not get that much attention until during the 2016 presendential election. This issue unintentionally predicted the plans for Donald Trump to build a wall on the Mexican border and it is on full display on many pages of this issue. It is one of those “The Simpsons predicted it” moments in comic books that nobody seen coming and now we are in 2019 and it is still talked about to this day.

7. Weird Fantasy #18 (Estimated Value: $140-$1700) (1953)

Looking at this book now, it actually ages well. But in 1953, there was a huge uproar due to the fact that nobody knew until the end of the issue that the leader of the “Judgment Day” mission was an Africian-American man. They thought that the idea of an Africian American man being the lead of a story at that time was ridiculous. I am glad to see that today many leaders of comic book stories are more diverse than ever before.

6. Tomb of Terror #15 (Estimated Value: $2000) (1954)

This comic book is one of the nine books banned by Congress. Yup, that is right, banned by the United States Congress as the cover for its time was very graphic. Of course, this is a famous horror series so there would be covers at times that have voilence at times. But many people felty that it was way too much since it is one of the examples of an eye injury that was similar to recurring taboos at the time such as Nazis and bondage.

5. The Spirit #1 (Estimated Value: $1400) (1944)

The first issue of this series grew controversy due to the use of blackface on the character. It gets worse as the character is literally near the tombstone. That right there is not visually appealing and it again shows the dirty past of how Africian Americans were precieved.

4. Quantum and Woody #1 2nd Print (Estimated Value: $1600+)

This comic is more rare than controversial, but I decided to add it on this list due to the fact that they simply rushed it to third printing as soon as it was announced that the second print will only be one copy. It was auctioned off to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and I highly doubt we will ever see another second print of this ever again.

3. Action Comics #58 (Estimated Value: $3,300-$5000) (1943)

If you notice a trend here, is that there are more controversial Superman related comics that are in the high price than there are Batman related comics. Here on the cover and inside the issue is racist World War II propaganda and from the first page until the final page is full of it. Looking at the right of the cover where those posters are being printed is something you cannot unsee when you look at the cover. There has not been a sale on this issue for many years and it is another highly sought after issue.

2.Fight Comics #31 (Estimated Value: $5500-$6000) (1944)

On this cover, you can see a soldier decapitated the enemy soldier in gruesome fashion. There has been war comics dating back to the late 30’s, but none of them actually showed soldiers beimng killed on the cover.

1.All Negro Comics #1 (Estimated Value: $12,600-$18,000) (1947)

This is the first comic book that was produced by black creators that includes writers, artists, and the publisher itself. Also, inside the back cover has an ad for the second issue but it was never released due to many vendors and stores refusing to have this comic book on stands. The book was since reprinted years later and in 2019, a new listing emerged with a high price was set. If you have the cash for this piece of history, buy it now!

Wizard World Philadelphia 2019 Recap

Wizard World Philadelphia is usually their biggest show of the year and it showed during the four day convention. From the cosplay, to the gaming area, the guests, and the gaming area, there is plenty for everyone to do at the show over there at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This year’s headliners were supposed to be Gotham stars Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin, but they cancelled one day before the show begun. You would think that the show would be greatly affected by this, but it was not. I will get to the guests that were there shortly as I begin my recap of Wizard World Philadelphia 2019.

Ted Danson was announced for the show as it was his first ever comic convention appearence. He had a panel in which he and George Wendty talked about Cheers and answered questions to the fans.

So with that out of the way, I covered the show for three of the four days and although the best of the best cosplay did not showed up until late Saturday, I barely seen any at all. I do not know why, but I expected many just like in years past. But the crowd was decent and even for a show. Friday was slower than usual, but the celebrity guest table lines were mostly full. I did not see it empty not once so it is great to see how many people came out to see them. Guests included Lisa Marie Varon, Devon Dudley, Sgt. Slaughter, Kevin Konroy, the cast of RWBY, Once Upon a Time, and much more. There was even a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament that took place during the three days. I did actually qualify for this, but I got eliminated in the qualifying round. Also to note, These three are the best cosplay pictures I have taken during the weekend that I have taken many.

The other panels I have attended were Once Upon a Time and Kevin Conroy and John Glover’s. The Kevin Conroy one was interesting as he finally gave his thoughts of Robert Pattison being casted as Batman. He reacted very positively to the announcement as he wanted everyone to give him a chance since they all gave every other actor a chance. Right below, you can hear it from the man himself in his own words.

The next panel I attended was Once Upon a Time as Lana Parrilla, Rebecca Mader, and Jared Gilmore took the stage to talk about their best memories of the show since the show just finished its final season. Once Upon a Time has a huge fanbase and this panel was packed from the front to the back.
It was very fun to watch live since I have always heard about the show. Lana even worn the Phillies baseball t-shirt at the panel that a fan given her as a gift at her table before the panel begun. You can check out the entire panel below.

My Interviews

Last but not least, I conducted interviews at the show. Kevin Conroy was my first one during the show as we talked about Batman, stories with Mark Hamill, and his future projects. I interviewed WWE Hall of Fame inductee Devon Dudley as we talked about his memories competing in TLC matches, a story about Vince McMahon, his take on the Bully Ray situation at the recent Ring of Honor show, and what would it take to be a road agent at WWE. And my final interview was with Kara Eberle of the hit anime series RWBY as her fun personality shined during this interview as we talked about the series and her recent appearence on Death Battle. You can check these interviews out below.

Wizard World was fun this year and I know for the sure that the shows will keep getting bigger! I will be back next year for more coverage.

Fear The Walking Dead Season 5, Episode 3 “Humbug’s Glutch” Review

This week’s episode saw the debut of Austin Amelio reprising his role as the former Savior lieutenant Dwight as he is the second major character to cross over from the main show. Did his debut episode deliver? Or did it fall like a walker after being put down. Here is my review of the third episode of the fifth season of Fear The Walking Dead titled “Humbug’s Glutch”.

The episode begins where the group are taking down walkers that are tied together like the ones that were seen on the previous episodes. We go back and forth in between the group clearing walkers, and Luciana marking X’s on the map from where they put down those walkers. John and June also do the same thing in a different area until an unseen shooter tries to shoot to kill them. They had a small shootout until John and June escaped with their van. John and June drives to an abandoned western style town. I must say, I love the scenery of this abandoned town as it fits John perfectly. John and June explore the place and they go to a locked cabinent. John was about to use his last bullet to open the cabinent, but June opened it. Once that happened, they find a large stash of guns and ammo and they took all of it.

Alicia and Luciana talks about what happened the previous night as they both apologized and wanted to move forward. While they are talking about the plane, Alicia lets Morgan know that they are coming back. The three kids intercepted the radio and Alicia responds to all three of them to let them know that they are looking for them. Back to John and June, a sandstorm is brewing at the abandoned town that they are in and June tries to contact Morgan. After the reception got messed up, John tells June the history of the place that they are in as he tried to play it off that he did not take part of the entertainment that used to happen there. While they are talking, the unseen shooter strikes again and then we get another shootout outside. John with his swift gun skills, shoots the shooter at the arm. He also shoots down two walkers until we find out that the unseen shooter is Dwight! Dwight asks John where is Sherry and before the conversation continues, June knocks him out. They take out his belongings from his pockets as they realize that he has been looking for her for a while. When Dwight wakes up, he angrily tells John to put his belongings down.

Back to Morgan and Alicia, they were on the radio trying to contact John until their car crashed off the road. They both get out the car to investigate what happened and they both noticed the that their tire was blown and they also see a spike car trap (like the ones the police use). John and June cannot stay at the place too long as they both talked back and forth on what to do and Dwight tells them both to take his car and leave him. John tells Dwight that they are in a similar path and he once shot a guy’s middle finger. Ouch!

After that, they finally introduce themselves and John gives Dwight’s gun back to him. For them to escape, they play music to attract walkers inside the place that they were in as John, Dwight, and June escape from the top window. Dwight decides to jump down (while he is still wounded may I add) and lands on the ground. He had a close call with a few walkers until John and June save him. As more walkers were coming, the three of them go to their opposite cars. At this point while they were talking back and forth on the radio, we learn that Dwight has been looking for Sherry for a year ever since Daryl exiled him. Dwight also said that she has left him notyes across the country for him and although some were dead ends, they all lead him to where he is now. He also has not found another note from her in months and he tried to kill John and June because he thought that they have done something to her. June tries to give him hope because John found her when they thought that they would never see eachother again.

Alicia contacts Dylan, Max, and Annie over the radio and then Morgan shows up and asks her if they responded. Alicisa tells the three that she lost her mom (Madison) and her brother (Nick) and that she knows how hard that they are hurting and that they do not want them to be alone. Alicia also wants the three of them to give them a chance as well. None of them respond. Back to John/June/Dwight as it is time to clear the walkers surrounding the car Dwight went inside before they separated. June’s gun gets jamed during the attempt and is almost taken out by a walker. Then, we get to see John’s badass revolver skills as he takes out walkers left and right. Then comes one of the coolest looking walker kills I have ever seen. John tells Dwight to hold up the hatchet with his injured arm as two walkers were approaching him. John then shoots his gun at the hatchet as the bullet splits from the hatchet to riccochet into the two walkers. Revolver Ocelot from the Metal Gear series would say “You’re Pretty Good” if he seen that because that was straight up awesome. John said that it was only the second time he has ever done that trick.

Later in the night, John tells Dwight that Sherry must still be out there and that the car is his due to the registry. Morgan and the rest meets up with John and June and it was right there that Morgan and Dwight reunites! The reunion did not last long as Max finally responded on the radio as he tells Alicia that they are on thyeir way to the truck stop. After they cleared out walkers, they go to a van to see Dylan covered in blood. It was here that we realize that Max and Annie trapped them as the episode ends.

Of the episodes I have seen so far, this is my all time favorite episode of Fear The Walking Dead. Although there were pacing issues with the three kids, the plot with John, June, and Dwight made up for this episode as most of this episode was dedicated to those three. This episode did not disappoint at all and John is the star of this episode. That bullet trick he did will have the world talking as it is one of the best scenes in the entire Walking Dead universe. I can also say that I compare John and June’ relationship to Maggie and Glenn at this point as their chemistry is very good and it shines the most on this episode. I want to also see more of Dwight on Fear so I am looking forward to the upcoming episodes.

The Best and Worst of E3 2019

E3 2019 took place this week in Los Angelas, California and there were many big announcements that were made during the four day show. Many press conferences surprised the live audience and viewers around the world, while some have been a snooze fest. E3 for the last few years has been trying to get back to their roots especially with last year’s show that disappointed many. Has E3 2019 rised from the ashes of last year’s letdown, we shall see as I rank them from the best to the worst.

EA Play

Last year’s show of EA at E3 was a huge disaster. It felt like an investor meeting more than a presentation show. This year, was a change of pacde for the better as Greg Miller to take the stage to introduce the developers of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order along with a long trailer and gameplay video which surprised the fans as nobody thought that we would see gameplay from it this year. The game was recieved very well from the live audience and the viewers at home and knowing EA’s track record of the Star Wars franchise, many were spectable if they could actually deliver this time and so far, it seems like they are since this is a single player game. This game reminded me of The Force Unleashed games from a decade ago. Other games that were shown was new content for Apex Legends, Battlefield V, and The Sims 4 along with new footage of Madden NFL 20 and Fifa 20. This was a huge improvememnt of last year’s show as EA realized their mistakes from last year’s show and did not want to repeat them. Every game that was showcased from EA including for its EA Originals program felt like it mattered to the casual viewer and it was all about the games this year instead of the microtransactions, loot boxes, etc.

Final Grade: B

Bethesda

I have no idea if Bethesda paid the entire audience to clap at every announcement it sure looked like it did. With the way Fallout 76 was handled last fall along with the disatrous pre order bonuses that did not come as advertised, you would think that the crowd would have not give them a warm reception but they did when it was announced that a battle royal mode will be coming to Fallout 76 along with more DLC. But besides that, The Elder Scross were showcased which included DLC for Elder Scrolls Online, Blades, and Legends and more trailers for Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Doom Eternal, and Ghostwire Tokyo. All of these trailers look great, but we did not see any gameplay from any of them. There were also some cringe moments during the conference as well, but not to the level of Ubisoft. Good conference, but I felt very underwhelmed with no major announcements from Bethesda.

Final Grade: C+

XBOX

Mocrosoft on Sunday saved the show so far especially after that miserable PC Gaming Show that felt longer than WrestleMania with Phantasy Star Online 2 finally coming to the west for the first time ever, Borderlands 3, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Blair Witch, a new Battletoads game which surprised me, Minecraft Dungeons, and even an updated version of the Elite controller. I must say, XBOX’s controllers always felt great to use so I am for this decision to give it a complete overhaul. The bigger games that were showcased were Gears 5 (which was announced last year, but we finally know the release date), and Cyberpunk 2077 with Keanu Reeves making an appearence at the show to present the release date. The fans at the show ate this up as everyone cheered for him as he appeared. The biggest announcement is that the successor of Xbox One titled “Project Scarlett” will be coming in the fall of 2020 and we got little details of what the console will bring once it is in our hands. Also, Halo Infinite will be the launch title of this console just like the very first Halo was for the first Xbox 18 years ago. This presentation saved the show so far at this point even though we did not get any gameplay videos. But this presentation proved that Microsoft has come a long way since the ridicilous E3 2013 conference. They turned everything around year after year and their support from gamers has grown back to where it was before the Xbox One was first announced.

Final Grade: A-

Square Enix

Of all the conferences, Square Enix had the best presentation from the visuals, the announced games, and how they transitioned from one announcement to another. It was announced by different pictures on the wall of the screen each with the camera paning to the next game. It was an interesting idea and change and I think that it worked very well. Final Fantasy 7 Remake finally has a release date and it was showcased with a few cutscenes and the gameplay at Midgar. All of the characters looked very impressive and more brought to life than ever. However, this game will be episodic and Square Enix confirmed that they will release the first part of the game (Which is Midgar) at a full price and have the rest of the game released as different standalone games down the line. This has spawned a mixed reaction from the fanbase. The other announcements we have gotten was Life is Strange 2, Final Fantasy 8 Remaster, Dragon Quest XI, DLC for Kingdom Hearts 3, a new expansion to Final Fantasy XIV, and Marvel’s Avengers. The Avengers game does not look up to today’s gaming standards of visuals and graphics so I hope that it is changed from now until the release date. With those points aside, I enjoyed this conference more than any of the others at the entire E3 week and Square Enix delivered a conference that will be remembered for years.

Final Grade: A+

Ubisoft

I still do not know why in 2019 Just Dance is coming out for the Nintendo Wii. Yes, you just read that because that was part of this presentation. A dance off performance that we did not need just to announce the game. But the most interesting title is Watch Dogs Legion as this time around, you are also able to play as the NPC’s and I think that is an interesting twist in a video game I have not seen done before. Eqach NPC has different skillsets as well. We even seen Jon Bernthal present Ghost Recon Breakpoint as it is the newest entry of the series. That was a great way to introduce the game and to see him on stage with the dog. More announcements came to play as we were shown Rainbow Six Quarantine, Roller Champions which is a roller derby inspired video game and it is supposed to be in the same league as Rocket League. DLC was also announced for The Division 2 which will be released in the summer and fall of this year. The announcememnt of a subscription service called UPlay has spawned a mixed reception from the fans as we do not need another subscription servive on top of ones we are already paying for. Good conference, with more questions raised. But at least we got gameplay from most of the announcements.

Final Grade: C

Nintendo

Last but not least, Nintendo at E3 with their Nintendo Direct. It started with a new character announcement for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as The Hero from Dragon Quest was revealed. I never thought that anything from that series would make its way to Smash Bros. The different costumes of The Hero represent another game he has appeared in. We follow that up with Luigi’s Mansion 3, new footage of Link’s Awakening HD, The Witcher 3 coming to Switch as nobody seen this coming, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Contra: Rogue Corps, Resident Evil 5 and 6, Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympic Games, and Daemon X Machina. All of these announcements were absolutely great plus the others I have not mentioned. The biggest aqnnouncements were that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be delayed (May I mention that you can finally sit down in the game!). Another great announcement is that Banjo Kazooie will be a DLC character in Smash Ultimate. This has been long awaited for many years now and I am happy to see it finally happen! Before the presentation finished, We got a glimpse of the sequel of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and I am totally looking forward to that. Nintendo usually goes all out for their E3 presentations on their Direct showcases. This was a must watch in my eyes.

Final Grade: A+

E3 this year was far much better than last year’s and 2017’s. It really felt like it was for the fans and gamers this time instead of investors and money.

Fear The Walking Dead Season 5, Episode 2 “The Hurt That Will Happen” Review

Lennie James as Morgan Jones – Fear the Walking Dead _ Season 5, Episode 2 – Photo Credit: Ryan Green/AMC

For the second Sunday in a row, Fear The Walking Dead has made me look forward to the next episode. We had a schocking plot twist at the end of the last episode that connects with The Walking Dead and now that Althea is kidnapped by the helicopter group, the group now searches for her. What are my thoughts of the second episode of the fith season? I will let you know right now as I give my thoughts of the brand new episode titled “The Hurt That Will Happen”.

The episode opens with a recorded video of Strand giving a message to Sarah, Wendell, and Charlie as if he was giving them a final message. Right after that, he shuts the camera off and gets out of the truck. He then walks alone to a gated area to see a cat and then one walker approaches him and falls straight through a sharp bar. After that, Strand realizes that Daniel is behind him pointing a gun and Daniel asks him why he is there. While Strand is telling him, Daniel shoots his gun. I liked how they made it seem like Daniel shot his gun at Strand only for the next shot to be seen that he shot a walker. Daniel tells Strand to come inside with him as it is not safe outside to talk. He even tells the cat to go inside with him as well.

John and Alicia are on the radio talking about Althea as they are searching for her and Morgan alerts them and shows them that all of the supplies and guns are missing as well. Alicia takes out three walkers after that and I must say, I like the weapon she has now as her signature weapon.

June takes off the bandage that Luciana has to check her nasty wound as John walks in to let them know that they have not found Althea. Back to o Daniel and Strand, Strand wants to know if Daniel has a small plane and Strand tells him that Althea is the reason he went to look for him. Strand also updates Daniel about Madison and Nick being gone and Strand asks Daniel if he can borrow one of his airplanes. Daniel does not trust him at all. Back to Morgan and Alicia as they see a road block with “DANGER KEEP OUT” written on all of the cars with radiation signs on them. Morgan and Alicia debate about going through the barrier. They also investigated the forest area until they are in trouble with a few gross looking walkers. I thought nothing of this initinally until a few miniutes later when a woman in a full body suit saves them.

The woman tells Morgan to take off all of his clothes. Alicia comes to stop the woman from shooting Morgan and interrogates her about Althea. The woman, who we now know her name is Grace, tells the both of them a reactor melted down a year ago and most of the area is contaminated along with the walker that they just killed. Grace says that Morgan needs to take a shower or else it will get worse for him. Can I also say that there are two crows in a cage above them? That might be some foreshadowing. Grace tells them that she seen the plane crash from a distance. Alicia questions if the area is even safe based on the information Grace tells them and Grace even tries to ask Alicia “the questions” about how many she has killed.

John and June goes to a house full of walkers and Strand tries to contact them by the radio in which he did not get a response since the signal was not strong with them. Strand tries to convince Daniel that he is not the same man from Mexico and Daniel made a funny comment about his haircut (I wonder who is the hair stylist of the apoclapse hehe). Grace does radaition testing of the area as Morgan kills a walker and I laughed when Morgan had on a shirt that said “Don’t Mess With Texas”. We also find out that it was Grace that set those traps for the walkers in the previous episode. More walkers come in and one of them is affected by radiation. A few of them also gets stuck in the mud. Alicia clears the walkers in fashion and one of the walkers try to bite Alicia and while I wqas watching this scene, I thought the whole time why didn’t Grace help her from the start instead of focusing on the radaition. Alicia could have died right there if she did not help her sooner. Grace also mentions that she used to work at the radaition power plant and told them about why she left and what she went through. John and Alicia are on the radio and Grace tells them over the radio to not touch anything. They go to the house that are full of walkers and Grace thinks that the walkers inside could have been people who were affected by the radaition meltdown before they turned.

Luciana contacts Strand and she gives him her location. She also tells him that they cannot stay there for long and the wind took down the attena so their contact has been cut. John and June (Also, my favorite couple of the show so far) tells her to stay inside, but Luciana refuses as walkers are approaching. She tries to shoot them with her working arm but that was not happening. Luciana returns and shuts the door. Alicia and Morgan talk about the three kids being right about Logan. Here comes my favorite dialogue of the episode and that is between Morgan and Alicia as Morgan talks about what he went through a few years ago. I also thinks that Morgan’s stick should never go missing at all from now on. Grace tells them that she cannot risk anymore people to be killed and tells the group that she will leave. Morgan tells her the walkie talkie channel as they part ways. After that, the group sees more walker heads under a billboard as they realize that someone knows that they are there. The episode ends as Daniel wants Strand to leave as he is not giving him the plane. Strand walks away from Daniel and Daniel told him the next time he comes back, he will kill him.

This was a great episode with a few head scratching moments such as Grace not helping Alicia sooner qand Luciana trying to kills walkers while she is very injured. I want to also say that Grace’s intruduction was handled greatly well and she did not seem like a random character at all. I believe that Grace will be a big part of the season when she returns. John and June’s chemisty on this season so far reminds me of Glenn and Maggie’s chemistry on the earlier seasons of The Walking Dead and so far, I am loving it. I also wonder when we will see Althea again after last week’s episode. I will be back for next week’s episode for another review!

Split Screen Festival 2019-Fear The Walking Dead Cast Interviews

The Split Screen Festival took place last week at the IFC Center in New York and there were many television show and movie premieres that were shown at the event. Fans got the chance to attend the screenings and see the cast and key people that are part of the show take the stage to talk about them. It was a fun experience for the fans and absolutely great to see this happen.

Of the shows, AMC Network’s Fear The Walking Dead had the biggest prescense of the weekend as fans were awaiting to see the premiere of the fifth season. I attended the red carpet event that took place at the IFC Center and cast members Alycia Debnam Carey, Colman Domingo, Jenna Elfman, Danay Garcia, and Austin Amelio (who crossed over to this show from the main show) were there along with exceutive producer Scott Gimple to take photos and answer questions about the season to the media. I was able to interview Alycia, Austin and Gimple.

Austin Amelio talked about his upcoming story in the fifth season of Fear and we also talked about what would happen if Daryl was to see him again, if we will see Sherry as well, if Negan would kill him if he seen him, and how often he keeps in contact with Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Alycia was the next person I interviewed as we talked about how much of an influence Madison will be in this season since she is not on the show anymore. I also asked if we were convinced if Madison is dead. She also brings up a good story about Lennie James (Morgan) while they were filming and if she thinks that killing walkers is very theraputic. We also talk about the radaition plot on the second episode of the fifth season as well and when she will cross paths with Dwight.

And finally, I got a chance to speak to Scott Gimple. We talked about the current progression of his and Robert Kirkman’s comic book series Die!Die!Die and how the current season of Fear will connect with the upcoming Rick Grimes films and the main show of The Walking Dead. The biggest piece of news from the interview is that the second spinoff series will begin filming next month so that will be something to look forward to.

Fear The Walking Dead airs on Sunday night at 9:00 pm EST on AMC Network

Fear The Walking Dead Season 5, Episode 1 “Here to Help” Review

Fear The Walking Dead Dead is back for the fifth season as many fans has been waiting for the sister show of The Walking Dead to return since last fall’s season four finale. Since Scott Gimple has taken over as the executive producer of this show along with new showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian B. Goldberg, the fourth season has had divided opinions of the fanbase. The start of the fifth season however, has improved over the last season already and it makes me want to come back for more. Here is my review of the season five premiere episode of Fear The Walking Dead titled “Here to Help”.

The episode starts with two new characters that are kids who are also brothers trying to clear walkers. We learn in a few minutes that their names are Dylon and Max. Dylon’s gun jams as he is trying to shoot the walker approaching them. But moments later, a small airplane made a crash landing infront of them. We find out that Morgan, Alicia, Luciana, June, John, and Althea were in the plane. Inside the plane, Luciana is impaled by a bar, and morgan is hanging, and everyone else suffers minor injuries. I also thought it was cool seeing that one walker trying to grab June’s hair in the same scene as well. Olivia also saves the two brothers by hitting the walkers with the shovel. Alicia also even sets up a small trap for the walkers as well. Morgan also helps Alicia clear the walkers as well. Althea also takes down a walker as well that has gear on, but we will get back to that later on this review. After the group gets Luciana out of the plane in which she still has the metal rod impaled through her shoulder, the group talks about the plane crash and a character named Logan that they have been in contact with on the walkie talkie. Another kid that is driving approaches them and tells them to get in the car.

We find out that the girl that picked the group up is the sister of Dylan and Max and that the plane made a crash landing due to a lost engine. The girl’s name is Annie and her and Morgan talks about why they are contacting Logan on the radio. She also says that the place they are heading to is worse than it seems. They also encounter a few road blocks and signs that all points to them to not cross that area (This is quite similar to when The Saviors kept blocking the road on “Last Day on Earth”). One of the blocked roads has walkers that are tied up with their guts as chains.

Elsewhere, Strand, Charlie, Wendell, and Sarah are also traveling and are also in contact with Morgan’s and the rest by the walkie-talkie. At the same time, Morgan and the rest reached an abandoned place to get the impaled bar out of Luciana and I must say, that was painful to watch. But at least the bar is out of her. The three kids decide to leave as they argued with the group about going to where Logan is since the three kids are warning them that it is not a good idea. Morgan wants Annie, Max, and
Dylan to join them, but they refused. Logan contacts Morgan and the scene here tells us that Morgan should have not trusted him to begin with. While Logan was talking to them, We get a scene of Strand’s group trying to enter the place Logan was at but it was guarded and they were about to get killed right there.Althena examines the video of that armored walker from earlier that day and then Morgan and Althena talked about the tapes as she says that it has not benefited her so far, but they tell a story. In fact, over with Strand, he sees a tape of Daniel Salazar which caught me by surprise as I did not expect to see him on the first episode.

John and June had a nice scene and they talked at night about what they went through before they found eachother again as they kissed after the conversation. Morgan and Alicia talks about her almost dying today and ashe mentions Madison and that she did so much for them in order of them to be standing right there today. Morgan goes on with the “we kill people” speech and he tells her that what he was then is not the same person he is now. Morgan wants to go look for the three kids.

The episode ends as Althena goes to that armored walker location after the plane crash. She unmasked the walker and look inside the pockets to find a map. The logo of the map is the same logo we see from the helicopter people on The Walking Dead with Jadis trading people and Althena gets kidnapped by another armed soldier that noticed it.

This episode opened with a great action sequence followed by character development and the return of Daniel Salazar in which fans have been waiting for since the last season. There were a few head scratching moments plotwise with the three kids, but I think their story will be more fleshed out during the season. I also love the few easter eggs of The Walking Dead that we got in this episode as well. We also got an interesting plot twist that connects this show with the main show in a greater way and I thought that was a brilliant idea. Fear The Walking Dead’s season five opener is awesome and I am looking forward to the rest of the season. For everyone that has tuned out during season four, I will say to tune back right in.

Interview: Christopher James Baker Talks Agents of the S.H.I.E.L.D., Stan Lee, His Upcoming Role in Stargirl, and more

Christopher James Baker recently appeared on the latest episode of Marvel’s Agents of the S.H.I.E.L.D as the new villian Malachi. I recently got the chance to interview Christopher as we talked about his appearence on the show along with his time in Ozark along with Stan Lee, his upcoming role on DC’s Stargirl, and New York City in general. The twenty Minute call was a great one and here is the interview below.

So I have watched you play different roles on Ozark and the blacklist and even Garbo. And also, True Detective and now recently, Agents of the S.H.I.E.L.D. My first question to you is that was a hard transition for you to play these different characters?

It’s a good question. And I don’t want to sound flippant. It’s not hard because that’s the work for me like that’s telling you you get a new role and start from the pace up and kind of build it up. Whether it’s about movement quality or you know vocal quality or whether if you know what the story purpose is like all of that stuff is a big part of the craft that I really enjoy. So it is work but it’s very enjoyable work. And by the time you get to the point where you’ve built a new character that’s different in a lot of ways to something you’ve done before. I find that fulfilling to you know when you enjoy seeing that my character was very different to this character those that I’d much prefer to be doing that every time and then doing another version of that guy again if you get what I mean. So yes I it’s work but it’s it’s like I love it. And that’s why I’m in it doing it. I’m kind of always trying to look for something that’s different to anything I’ve done before because it inherently involves a lot of exploration into different parts of yourself or different a different world or different time period that you don’t know about. So it’s kind of like being a religious archaeologist at some point.

When did you get the call that you were going to play as Malachi on the episode?

It was about this time last year. I can’t remember the exact day of the call, but the cool thing about it was that when I did the audition, it was just for a one episode guest. Here’s what I thought I was doing and I was elated like great. This is a great show. It sounds like a really cool character. At that stage, everything in a project like this is so top secret. They’re trying to keep everything under wraps. You actually as the actor not finding out very little about what you’re going to be doing and which is kind of fun and exciting in a way but it really wasn’t until I got there and pretty much just before I read that I met a cast and all the producers and everything. And then you’re reading through and it was that first episode that was just done and I remember finishing the Bible reading and calling my manager and saying oh I just kidnapped one of the main cast. I think they’re going to ask you to come back and get it. So it was kind of I didn’t realize that it was going to turn into to what it was I thought it was just going to be a lot of gastro but yeah. So but it was about a year ago I think and it was very exciting. That’s like stepping into the Marvel Universe which you know I’ve been a kind of comic fan and a movie fan my whole life. So that was there was a limit. Yeah a little bit tingly and kind of giddy and fun stuff like that happens.

Who did you tell first tell that you got the role?

My wife {Laughs} and then my family. At the time, my family’s still over in Australia and so I’m constantly sending them messages that say Guys I’ve got this really exciting news and you seriously can’t tell anyone. Otherwise, I’m going to get my Marvel Police that will come to my house and lock me up so you can be happy for me. But just don’t tell anybody else I’m doing this but it is a double edged sword sometimes.

I’ve heard stories of Stan Lee sometimes going on the set of Marvel’s Agents of the S.H.I.E.L.D.. Have you met or spoken to him before he passed away?

I’ll just be honest. I think we’re in lunch third or fourth episode. And when we found out I was I remember quite clearly in the makeup like you know you do hair and makeup we’ve performed in the makeup bus and that television on and the news broke that Stan lee had died which you know obviously affected the cast and crew of show immensely. And to your question, the rest of the day and the next day everyone I was chatting with would tell these incredible stories about exactly what you’re talking about that some guy and he just broke up or turn up for a cameo and he’d go out and chat to everyone and you know sign stuff and was just as generous and kind of amazing guy that was loving the world that he’d helped create the universe to help create and I think from from stories from from cars right down to you know set pieces and crew people would just hey just in time for everybody from from what I can tell. Fortunately I never got to meet him. I would have loved to. But yeah I think what a quite an amazing what an amazing amazing contribution to so many people’s lives. If that gentleman made some kind of yeah that was he was an amazing couple of days being on a show that you know he’d been a big part of creating.

What was your first day on the set like?

First day was little nerve wracking even if you had a lot of first days on set with something like this. I mean with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it was made very easy because they’re on Season 6 the most of the cast and crew have been there for six seasons now. They all want it knowing they’re shooting on the studios that they’ve been working on. It’s just a very well oiled machine and there’s no there’s no teething problems. It’s not like working on episode one of a brand new show where everybody’s trying to get to know each other and do their thing. So it was it was like just being into a really welcoming and fun family day. They made this stuff really well. Amazing crew and then all of the other actors are really welcoming and kind of enjoy what the guest cast bringing to their world and how we all kind of play together and it’s really when you on that first day that everything comes together like you’re doing your research and you preparation at home and it’s not until you get in and you get the costume on for the first time and you get things together and then you step into the set and suddenly you’re in a spaceship and then they hand you the props and your things and then you’re looking around and then everybody else turns up and you start when it’s like All right. Yeah well we’re in where it’s space. Sometimes it’s that very first day that you might be really nervous going “Oh my God I don’t know what I’m doing it and how this is going to work what’s going happen”. And then when you get there and finally step into everything and let go of everything, you worried about it it just takes on a whole different form I think. And then, it becomes into that and that becomes the play in the work. And it’s it’s exhilarating it’s nerve racking cause you really really don’t know what you’re doing a lot of the time until you’re actually standing there and then you see how the camera is going to be moving and what other people are doing. Right. Well the place even looks like oh can you tell again now that line makes sense because you’re holding that thing or you know and there’s a lot of you know I spent a lot of that first day going “Okay so what’s happening, why are they here”, Because everyone thinks the end of season five is so much it happened that I wasn’t privy to it because I didn’t get to know what the last couple of script turned out. Yeah there’s a lot of there’s a lot of catch up in it but it was also really fun and exciting because you walk down on those big kind of studio stages in in downtown Culver City. It’s a lot of history there is when I was walking down and someone’s like yeah that’s where they shot the sound of music I think we shot them and you know like there’s a bunch of old. It’s really cool you know on some of those old Hollywood stages that have history under themselves almost like a theater right. There it was. It was an exciting time and it was also a bugler and I know there was a good time.

Now do you have any stories working with the cast on S.H.I.E.L.D. and also on your time with Ozark?

Oh yes! one with Julia Garner. I do actually use her method of using that one way she’s spinning around on the chair singing to herself and I was standing in the room about 44 when that happened. Just been chatting and then she started doing it. So I just went “Oh my God”.She kind of popped up and cracking up laughing and it was the funniest thing I’ve seen. And it was a lot scarier in the room because everybody of course goes “Oh my God”. And then when we told her that she had been making it look so much worse on the video this looks like she blacked out. Yeah that was crazy stuff like that happened but yeah that was that was about the eyes and watching watching the video of the candidate posting this because she had to get all the permissions and everything she’s like you can sort of make out that we’re on set but you can’t really tell what to do. It’s like I’m in an office.

You’re also going to start the upcoming Stargirl series for this DC Universe. What can you tell me about the upcoming project?

I’m not saying much but it’s besides what’s happened. I don’t know if you’ve seen the Comics Geoff Johns stuff he did. It’s you know a lot of the story follows that pretty closely. Young young Courtney Whitmore moves to a new high school in a little town gets an advantage because she’s style girls. And there’s the places I have nothing on the other side then but yeah there’s nothing coming. It’s just that I think the most amazing thing about it so far has been that Geoff Johns who created the first comic that he ever did for DC quite a that you sound like you’re knowledgeable about the comic world as well. I think like so you know Jeff John and sort of what he’s done at DC and the characters he’s brought back and like true flash and everything that still go with the first thing he did and he wrote it and made it as what followed was a tribute to his sister. And where did it come. And now sort of come full circle and he’s show running this amazing showing. I think the task that is built and the crew that is built I find that with shows is the person that you know the people at the top and particularly the show runner is if they’re really loose and their intention is in the right place and the team they know they just kind of flows down the pyramid and everyone on this show is really great and it’s just been imbued with this excitement because it’s such a special project for him and personally he’s really going to exceeding in extraordinary lengths to make sure that it’s every shot is exactly right. Not in a bad perfectionist way but in a how can we all make this better so that it’s just everything is kick up and there’s been so many fun moments of just being on the set and watching like it was like when making a huge big 13 episode feature film they’ve got the stunt coordinators and came from like cattle and men and stuff and in doing these incredible stunts and I’m like it’s a proper big superhero do. I haven’t I haven’t thought of that kind of thing. It’s just amazing. And it seems it’s got a really good positive yes. It’s just a good story.

Any final thoughts before we wrap up the interview?

Just that it’s been pretty amazing to have a foot in both the DC and the Marvel Universe is I just feel blessed that that’s very rare and wonderful thing and I hope the it can continue for as long as possible because I think there’s something about doing these the comic book things. I don’t I feel like they deal with the bigger archetypes and biggest stories that help us work out what’s right and wrong and moral is not that everything has to have a message but it’s definitely fun to work on a big canvas that has lots of fans that are really into it because they can relate to it even though it’s not set in the real world. Oh yeah.

The Best and Worst of Game of Thrones Season 8

After two years of anticipation, Game of Thrones returned for their final season in 2019 to a lukewarm negative reception. It made everyone question how can a show like that dip in quality episode after episode in one season. It got so bad, that it made season 8 of The Walking Dead look like a masterpiece (unpopular opinion, but I love that season since the source material is also my favorite arc) and that is quite telling. I have been a fan of this show since the beginning and although I have never reviewed an episode, I always shared my thoughts to my friends and fans in different places whether if the episode was good or bad. But all of it was not bad though since there are a few good moments that came out of this season. Today, I will rank the best and worst moments of the final season of Game of Thrones.

THE BEST

Brienne is Finally Knighted

While Brienne and Jaime and the rest were waiting for the White Walker army to arrive for the huge battle that will happen, there was a ceremony that took place. Torment questions Brienne about becoming a knight, Brienne said that she could not become one due to tradition. That tradition was about to be broken as she becomes the first woman to become a knight in Westeros. This was a powerful moment in the series as we thought that would never happen in the universe of Game of Thrones and it was much deserved for her to become a knight. Everything that she has been through has come to this as Jaime says that he can knight whoever he wants and he chose to knight her.

Jon and Arya’s Reunion

This was a moment seven seasons in the making as the last time these two seen each other, was in season one. They reunited on the first episode of the 8th season and the fan inside of me came out to clap for this moment as I realized myself that they have not seen eachother in a very long time. Seeing this scene really got me excited for the rest of the season (This was before that it all went under after episode 3).

Lyanna Mormont vs. The Giant Knight

During the Battle of Winterfell, Lyanna proved that she can fight and she tried to step up to attack The Giant Knight with her Dragonglass Axe. She did succeeded, but it came with a brutal consequence as she was squeezed by him to death. She did manage to stab him right in the eye to kill The Giant, but it was her last breath as she died shortly afterwards. Lyanna was one of my favorite characters so this made me sad.

Death of Theon

Theon has went through a very rough time during his entire run on the show. From him being tortured for most of the series, to seeing the horrible things Ramsay did to his sister, it was hell and back for him all because he did not know that he is a member of the Stark family. I did not think his death would come very early as the Night King stabbed him through the chest and tossed his body away from him. Long live Theon.

The Battle of Winterfell and The Death of The Night King

Game of Thrones has always had some of the greatest battles on television that we will all remember. This battle that took place on the third episode has been building up since the Night King was introduced. Although mostly nobody could see the battle on their televisions due to the very dark screen, it was worth watching it if you brightened your television. The army of the dead has poured in and everyone tries their best to take them all out. The death of the Night King was also very satisfying and nobody would have expected Ayra to kill the King as well. In my opinion, this season peaked on this episode and no episode could not top that.

THE WORST

Euron’s Ambush

This one puzzled me since I have seen it and even the writers of the show tried to defend this. Nothing makes sense at all during this scene as Daenerys and her two dragons had to return south after the big battle, and then suddenly, a large crossbow bolt pierces Rhaegal a few times as his body comes crashing down. Although when we first seen The Scorpions a few seasons ago say that a dragon would someday go down, this could have been better executed as Daenerys was in the air and could have seen those ships from a far distance. The writers of the show said that Daenerys forgot about the ships. But how could that be possible when it was mentioned to her in another scene a few minutes before this scene even aired.

Missandei’s Death

I have a mixed feeling about this one. On one hand, I had a feeling that she was going to die before the final episode and that was way before her death got leaked. On the other, this just felt like a comic book story where the woman is killed to serve the purpose of building development of the male that is attached to her. Plus it is the final season so who is going to care anymore after this? Cersei is however not the same person anymore ever since that walk of shame so I did took her more of a serious approach ever since.

Daenerys’ Story

How do you go from one of the best written characters on television to being the worst written characters on television. Seeing her change from a good girl gone bad is as effective as Dean Ambrose’s WWE heel run. Nobody believed it and it felt rushed and unorganic to the viewer. The worst out of character moment we have seen her do is burn the entire city down which also killed millions of innocent families and children. Ridicilous choice to turn her character upside down.

The Production

It felt like the producers did not care anymore when it came to not only writing the show, but leaving objects in plain view such as a coffee cup and a empty water bottle on the final season. But the biggest production error I have seen is when Jaime somehow grew his hand back at one of the scenes. All of this along with the messy and choppy screenwriting made this season one of the worst in recent memory. When the Iron Throne was burned down to the ground, that right there told me to put this show out of its misery.
