August 6, 2015 (Los Angeles, Calif.) Archaia, an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, invites readers to look behind the scenes of Shakespeare’s Macbeth to see who wields the real power in the new, original limited series Toil and Trouble. Mairghread Scott (Transformers: Windblade) and debut artists Kelly & Nichole Matthews reinvent the famous tragedy by putting the power in the hands of the three witches as they control the destiny of a king and the fate of Scotland.

“Toil and Trouble takes the coolest parts of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and flips it around to show how these three powerful witches were pulling the strings the whole time,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Mairghread has crafted a story of three incredible women whose desires will shape a country’s destiny, and Kelly and Nichole infuse that story with beautiful, lush artwork crackling with magic. I think even the Bard himself would co-sign this.”

The three Fates—Riata, Cait, and Smertae—have always been guiding and protecting Scotland unseen, indirectly controlling the line of kings according to the old religion. When there is a disagreement in the sisterhood, Riata and Smertae will use men as pawns, and Smertae will direct Macbeth to a crown he was never meant to have.

“[Toil and Trouble is] a gorgeously drawn story of a battle for ancient Scotland, that is secretly watched over by three feuding witches and their familiars,” tweeted writer Gail Simone (Red Sonja, Secret Six), who got to read an advance copy. “Absolutely one of my favorite new books. I can’t wait for the next issue, it feels like a TOP-NOTCH fantasy novel, but with adorable art.”

Toil and Trouble #1 (of 6) (formerly The Third Witch) arrives in comic shops on September 2nd with a main cover by Kyla Vanderklugt (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Witches) for the price of $3.99 under Diamond order code JUL151089. Also available in a limited quality is a 10 Years incentive cover by Meredith McClaren, and a retailer incentive cover by Haemi Jang (Clive Barker’s Next Testament).

Archaia has had the joy of working with The Jim Henson Company for many years now, and revealing the prequel to The Dark Crystal has been a great honor,” said BOOM! Studios President of Publishing & Marketing Filip Sablik. “The world of The Dark Crystal is incredibly rich and detailed, and being able to dive into the history and lore of the Skeksis and Gelfling has been amazing. Studios, is pleased to announce the next installment of high-stakes danger in the hacker community with Hacktivist Vol. 2 #1, debuting this July. The team behind the critically acclaimed limited series is back as actress/activist Alyssa Milano teams up once again with writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials Official Graphic Novel Prelude), and artist Marcus To (New Warriors, Red Robin) for a new limited series that pits hacker against hacker.

“We’re living in a time when the inherent possibilities and dangers of the digital world grow more consequential every day,” said BOOM! We’re very excited to have the entire team Hacktivist back.”

“I’m so happy to be able to continue to explore these special characters, their partnership, their friendship and their hacktivism,” said Milano. “It was great to work with this unbelievable team again and I can’t wait for readers to experience this next chapter.”

It’s been six months since Tunis. Nate Graft’s life was turned upside-down after his best friend Ed Hiccox died, but he’s since pulled things together and is now in charge of VIGIL, the front line of America’s ongoing cyber operations. Just when things are starting to gain some semblance of control, YourLife, the government, and Nate come under attack by a new breed of hacker…who call themselves .sve_urs3lf. Using Nate and Ed’s former handle, they want to know the truth of what happened in Tunis, and they’re calling for blood. Nate’s blood.

The Realist art by Asaf Hanuka

March 16, 2015 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – Archaia, an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, is pleased to announce the April debut of acclaimed Israeli illustrator Asaf Hanuka’s autobiographical original graphic novel The Realist. Collecting Hanuka’s weekly strips in English for the first time, The Realist is an emotional, deeply personal commentary on his life and raising a family in Tel Aviv, Israel.

“Asaf Hanuka can say more with a single illustration than some people could say in a whole book,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “The Realist is a rollercoaster of emotion, filled with humorous strips of trying to raise a family and stunning, quiet images of the dangers of a war-torn country. Marjane Satrapi introduced Western audiences to a post-Islamic Revolution Iran in Persepolis, and now Asaf Hanuka gives us a window into modern life in Tel Aviv with The Realist.”

Asaf Hanuka’s autobiographical webcomic, The Realist, began winning awards shortly after its launch, including a Gold Medal from The Society of Illustrators. Collected for the first time in English and including never-before-collected strips, The Realist delivers both honesty and whimsy from a master of his craft. With echoes of R. Crumb and Daniel Clowes, Hanuka moves readers with his depictions of everyday life, commenting on everything from marriage to technology to social activism through intimate moments of triumph and failure.

Featuring a trim size of 6.875 x 10.1875 and containing 192 pages, The Realist original hardcover graphic novel arrives in comic shops from Archaia on April 22nd with a cover by creator Asaf Hanuka for the price of $24.99 under Diamond order code FEB151166.

The Final Order Cutoff deadline for retailers is March 30th. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one! It’s also available for order directly from boom-studios.com.

Rocket Salvage #1 Retailer Incentive Cover (1:10) by Yehudi Mercado

November 19th, 2014 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – Archaia, an award-winning imprint of publisher BOOM! Studios, invites you to pull on your racing gear and rev up your engines this December for the new sci-fi adventure series Rocket Salvage. Creator/writer Yehudi Mercado (Guardians of the Galaxy: Universal Weapon; Pantalones, TX) and artist Bachan (Imagine Agents) give new meaning to the term “space race” with this six-issue limited series about a disgraced former rocket racer named Primo Rocket and his clone kids as they take off across the galaxy to escape the alien gangsters targeting them.

“Yehudi and Bachan are exactly who you want to take you on a crazy racing adventure through space,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “They’re two high-energy storytellers who are great at building new worlds. And Rocket Salvage just happens to be filled with racing-obsessed aliens and rocket ships! But the heart of this story is about a family sticking together against all odds, and that’s what makes it a special project.”

Primo Rocket was the fastest racer in the galaxy until a crash changed his fate and that of his space-station-city home, Rio Rojo. Now, Primo is the owner of a spaceship salvage yard with his two “kids,” clones Beta and Zeta. But everything changes after they become the target of a manhunt leading them on a string of intergalactic adventures. It’s up to this dysfunctional family to stay together and, ultimately, save their home.

Rocket Salvage #1 arrives in comic shops from Archaia on December 17th with a cover price of $3.99 under Diamond order code OCT141161. The main cover is illustrated by series artist Bachan, with an incentive cover by Yehudi Mercado. The Final Order Cutoff deadline for retailers is November 24th. ‘Hacktivist’ Team Goes on a ‘Joyride’ with New Archaia Original Series

‘Hacktivist’ Team Goes on a ‘Joyride’ with New Archaia Original Series

October 21,  2014 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – As first revealed in the AT&T U-Verse documentary “Comic Book Artists: Next Generation,” about the Toronto-based collective artists studio, the Royal Academy of Illustration and Design (also known as RAID Studios), award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce Joyride,an upcoming original series from its Archaia imprint created by the Hacktivist team of artist Marcus To and writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing.

Based on an idea To had when he was in high school, the project was developed jointly by the trio after they enjoyed working with each other on Hacktivist, the Archaia series from earlier this year created by actress and activist Alyssa Milano. In Joyride, when the Earth of the future becomes a totalitarian nightmare, three free-thinking teenagers bust free and discover real freedom in the vast reaches of unexplored space.

“Marcus is an incredibly talented artist we’ve seen evolve by leaps and bounds on Hacktivist and on Cyborg 009 before that, so when he, Collin, and Jackson approached us for a new original series with teenagers rocketing through space, we couldn’t turn it down,” said BOOM! Studios President of Publishing and Marketing Filip Sablik. “Their chemistry was so great on Hacktivist; it’s nice to see the old band back together with Jackson and Collin writing and Marcus on art. It’s going to be a blast, and we can’t wait to take everyone along for the ride.”

Joyride is the culmination of everything I love about comics,” said To. “We’re excited to tell relevant stories that engage our young and boisterous fans.”

“This is the book we’ve been dying to write,” said Kelly and Lanzing. “Joyride is about friendship, anarchy, punk rock, and freedom—about following your heart, even when it leads you into the vast unknown. Working with Marcus on Hacktivist was incredible, but creating a new universe alongside him has given us a whole new appreciation for his talent. We’re insanely excited to be back at Archaia, telling new stories and exploring totally bonkers new worlds.”

Additional details, including a release date, will be revealed at a later time. Watch the video in which To, Kelly, and Lanzing speak about Joyride here: http://uverse.com/uverse/buzz.
