Star Wars and the Power of Costume @ EMP Museum in Seattle

As “Force Friday” comes to a close and all the new toys are slowly beginning to sell out, there is still one bargain for Star Wars fans to marvel over until October 4th.   If you live anywhere near Seattle, there is a gem of an exhibit at the EMP Museum at the Seattle Center called “Star Wars and the Power of Costume”.

11698813_10152870967456123_8276453390068726878_o (1)

I had the pleasure of going to the EMP (Experience Music Project) Museum last month and can say this Museum is one of the premier pop culture museums in the country.  Even if you are not into Star Wars, the museum currently has exhibits on Indie Gaming,  Wild Blue Angel: Hendrix Abroad, 1966-1970, Music Creation (in an exhibit called” Sound Lab”), “We are 12” an exhibit on the Seattle Seahawks, Infinite Worlds of Science Fiction, Can’t Look Away : The Lure of Horror Film, Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic , Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses ,  What’s Up, Doc? The Animation Art of Chuck Jones , and the previously mentioned Star Wars Exhibit.    This museum has absolutely everything  Pop Culture related and could easily keep you occupied for hours upon hours with more amazement.

10428195_10152870967726123_4987340891742156062_o

The Star Wars exhibit is sponsored by the Smithsonian, Lucas Museum and Lucusfilms.  When you enter the exhibit, you are greeted with the “Cantina Song” and go up the Millennium Falcon lighted staircase.  On your left, you see an early version of Yoda and then make your way up to the Obi-Wan robe.   While the first floor is mainly Episode 1-3,  you do get to see R2D2 and C3Po on the ground floor as well as videos from Natalie Portman & George Lucas.  On the second floor, you have all your Episode 4-7 stuff including Han Solo, Chewbacca and a small special room for Darth Vader.   On top of the great exhibit, the Star Wars store has probably some of the greatest Star Wars related shirts and hoodies I have ever seen on this or any other planet.

11115674_10152870968401123_2263047679859868999_o

While the Star Wars Exhibit is an extra $8 on top of the $25 museum admission, it is still one of the biggest bargains in Seattle.

However, if you want to see more of Seattle and save (Space Needle, Boat Tour, Aquarium, Pacific Science Center & the EMP,  I urge you to buy the City Pass for $69

I can’t say enough good things about this exhibit and the EMP Museum as a whole.  The “Star Wars” exhibit is expected to make a 12 city tour and I urge you to go check it out.  This exhibit is perfect the way it is and doesn’t need a “Lucas Special Edition.”  This was the perfect topper for a great trip to Seattle.

Check out and “like” our small sampling of photos on Facebook and our video walkthough of the exhibit on You Tube.  Please remember to “subscribe” to see more of  our videos.

August 11, 2015 (Los Angeles, Calif.) BOOM! Box, an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, takes to the skies for adventure this September with Tyson Hesse’s Diesel. Hop aboard the airship Peacetowne as Tyson Hesse (Bravest Warriors, The Amazing World of Gumball) brings readers an original coming-of-age fantasy in the vein of Amulet and Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle.

In the series: Dee Diesel isn’t very good at anything. The daughter of the late Tungston Diesel, she has yet to live up to her father’s great reputation. Her rival has inherited control of her family’s airship and left Dee the only job she’s qualified for: working in a two-bit garage. But all that changes when a mysterious flying engine crashes into Dee’s life and takes her on a journey through the skies.

“Tyson did an awesome job on covers for Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors, and his work on The Amazing World of Gumball left us in stitches with his flair for characterization,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Diesel is his first original series, and it’s an incredible debut! You’ve got airship fights, robots, and a mysterious flying engine. At the same time, you also have the story of a young woman trying to find her place in the world while standing in her famous father’s shadow. Tyson has created a stunning new world that’s coming your way this September!”

August 6, 2015 (Los Angeles, Calif.) Archaia, an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, invites readers to look behind the scenes of Shakespeare’s Macbeth to see who wields the real power in the new, original limited series Toil and Trouble. Mairghread Scott (Transformers: Windblade) and debut artists Kelly & Nichole Matthews reinvent the famous tragedy by putting the power in the hands of the three witches as they control the destiny of a king and the fate of Scotland.

“Toil and Trouble takes the coolest parts of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and flips it around to show how these three powerful witches were pulling the strings the whole time,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Mairghread has crafted a story of three incredible women whose desires will shape a country’s destiny, and Kelly and Nichole infuse that story with beautiful, lush artwork crackling with magic. I think even the Bard himself would co-sign this.”

The three Fates—Riata, Cait, and Smertae—have always been guiding and protecting Scotland unseen, indirectly controlling the line of kings according to the old religion. When there is a disagreement in the sisterhood, Riata and Smertae will use men as pawns, and Smertae will direct Macbeth to a crown he was never meant to have.

“[Toil and Trouble is] a gorgeously drawn story of a battle for ancient Scotland, that is secretly watched over by three feuding witches and their familiars,” tweeted writer Gail Simone (Red Sonja, Secret Six), who got to read an advance copy. “Absolutely one of my favorite new books. I can’t wait for the next issue, it feels like a TOP-NOTCH fantasy novel, but with adorable art.”

Toil and Trouble #1 (of 6) (formerly The Third Witch) arrives in comic shops on September 2nd with a main cover by Kyla Vanderklugt (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Witches) for the price of $3.99 under Diamond order code JUL151089. Also available in a limited quality is a 10 Years incentive cover by Meredith McClaren, and a retailer incentive cover by Haemi Jang (Clive Barker’s Next Testament).

THIS SEPTEMBER, SETTLE BACK FOR PICKIN’ AND GRINNIN’,

TALL TALES AND A STAR-SPANGLED LINE-UP FROM THE ORIGINAL DOWN-HOME COUNTRY VARIETY SHOW

 THE HEE HAW COLLECTION

The 3-Disc Collection ($39.95srp) from one of the longest-running shows in

TV History, Includes 5 Episodes Never Released at Retail, Featuring Country Superstars such as Buck Owens, Roy Clark, Tammy Wynette, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Hank Williams Jr. and Loretta Lynn; Exclusive Interviews, Hee Haw Laffs, Special Comedy Selections and More!

IN STORES SEPTEMBER 8

FAIRFAX, VA – Pickin’ and grinnin’, singin’ and spinnin’ tall tales and corny jokes, the citizens of Kornfield Kounty landed on television in 1969 with the arrival of HEE HAW as a summer replacement series for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.  Each week, co-hosts Buck Owens and Roy Clark and the cast of comedians and musicians welcomed the biggest stars in country music to perform their songs and help deliver the legendary corny one-liners.  Though a hit, CBS dropped the show in 1971 in an attempt to “de-countrify” the network’s programming; however, it was quickly picked up and became the longest-running weekly syndicated series in television history.  And, this September, Time Life invites home audiences back to rural Kornfield Kounty for some timeless, down-home entertainment with THE HEE HAW COLLECTION.

The 3-disc collection features 5 episodes never-before-available at retail.  These vintage episodes from the late 60s and early 70s, rarely seen since their original broadcasts, feature all the Kornfield Kounty regulars and their hilarious comedy plus country legends like Conway Twitty performing “Hello Darlin’,” Merle Haggard singing his classic “Okie from Muskogie,” Donna Fargo performing “Funny Face,” Tammy Wynette performing her #1 hit “Ways to Love a Man,” an unforgettable duet with Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn performing “Pickin’ Wild Mountain Berries,” plus other country legends like Charlie Rich, Hank Williams Jr. and many other chart-toppers; gospel classics “I Saw the Light” and “I’ll Fly Away” with Tennessee Ernie Ford and of course, even more country classics from HEE HAW co-hosts Buck Owens and Roy Clark.  The collection, certain to thrill any Kornfield Kounty denizen or classic TV aficionado, also includes bonus interviews with show regulars including Roy Clark, Lulu Roman, George Lindsey, Charlie McCoy and Jim and John Hager.  Additional bonus programming includes all-time favorite comedy from the early years in “Hee Haw Laffs,” featuring “Board Fence,” “Cornfield,” “Moonshiners,” “Doctor Spot,” “Old Philosopher,” “General Store,”  “Haystack,” “Schoolhouse” and other knee-slappers.

Conceived as a rural alternative to Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, HEE HAWhoned in on country music and rural Southern culture. With Clark and Owens co-hosting, Minnie Pearl, Grandpa Jones, Archie Campbell and the rest of the HEE HAW gang traded knee-slappers and gut-busting one-liners in memorable sketches including “Doc Campbell,” “PFFT! You Was Gone” and “Gordie’s General Store”– as well as the all-time favorites “Rindercella” and “Trigonometry” and the unforgettable menagerie of animated donkeys and pigs.  And because HEE HAW was a favorite stop for country’s greatest stars, the show featured hundreds of performances by top country stars at the peaks of their careers, like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr. and so many more.  Though the last “new” episode aired in 1992, HEE HAW remains one of the longest-running and best loved television variety shows of all time.

In addition to this latest DVD release, HEE HAW is getting the Broadway treatment with the world premiere of the new musicalMoonshine: That HeeHaw Musical September 2 at Dallas Theater Center.  The musical distills the spirit of the iconic television series and bottles it into an original musical comedy.   Set in present-day Kornfield Kounty, this highly anticipated show introduces a new generation of irresistible characters as it tells the story of Misty Mae, the ultimate hometown girl who heads to the big city and returns home with her slick city-boy beau.  Featuring an original score by Grammy® Best New Artist nominee Brandy Clark and Grammy® Award winning songwriter/producer Shane McAnally (two of today’s most critically acclaimed country music singer/songwriters) and a book by Robert Horn, the musical adds an exciting new chapter to the long-running HEE HAW story.

For true HEE HAW fans, Time Life will also be releasing several exclusive sets, only available online at http://timelife.com/products/the-hee-haw-collection or by calling 1-800-950-7887.  The direct response HEE-HAW COLLECTION offers either 11 episodes across 8 DVDs or 23 episodes across 14 DVDs, for approximately $100 or $190, respectively.  Both sets arrive with hours of bonus programming including in-depth interviews and Hee Haw comedy classics.

Archaia has had the joy of working with The Jim Henson Company for many years now, and revealing the prequel to The Dark Crystal has been a great honor,” said BOOM! WWE® Superstar Undertaker® To Attend
Wizard World Chicago, Tulsa

WWE Superstar Undertaker® returns to Wizard World in two of its most popular Comic Cons in Chicago (Friday, August 21) and Tulsa(Saturday, October 24).

At the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill., Undertaker will appear from 3-7 p.m., posing for photo ops at 3 and signing autographs beginning at 4:45. He will be part of a huge WWE contingent at Wizard World’s longest running show which also includes Superstars Sting™, Randy Orton®, Daniel Bryan®, and WWE® Diva Paige™.

At the Cox Business Center in Tulsa, he will attend from 1-5 p.m., with photo ops starting at 1 and autographs at 2:45.

For more than two decades, The Deadman has loomed over the WWE landscape like a menacing shadow, spelling out doom for those who dare cross him. Imbued with seemingly mystical abilities and preternatural in-ring ability, The Undertaker is a WWE great in a class by himself, and no list of legends would be complete without him.

First introduced at Survivor Series in 1990, it was not long before he began to battle with WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan. This clash set the tone for Undertaker’s dominant career. No one was too big and no one too big and no one was safe from his gloved grip.

Meet him at these two great events in the coming weeks.

AVAILABLE ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2015

Los Angeles, CA (August 11, 2015) – Before “Saturday Night Live” and “The Daily Show”, before the spoof-tastic films The Groove Tube and Kentucky Fried Movie came THE GREAT AMERICAN DREAM MACHINE, an irreverent, satirical weekly variety show that aired on PBS for two seasons from 1971-1972.  Unlike anything ever seen on public television, the eclectic, often controversial series – an early proving ground for many top comedic talents including Chevy Chase, Albert Brooks and Charles Grodin — combined humorous skits, drama, musical performances and political commentary in an “experimental” format and was considered Channel Thirteen’s first prime-time hit, setting new records for attracting younger adult viewers to public broadcasting.  And, this September, S’more Entertainment will fire up THE GREAT AMERICAN DREAM MACHINE for its eagerly-anticipated home entertainment debut in a 4-disc collector’s set for $39.98srp.
Produced by public broadcaster WNET IN New York, THE GREAT AMERICAN DREAM MACHINE was dubbed “the intellectual Laugh-In” and immediately struck a countercultural chord in the ’70s, poking fun at politics, commercialized mass culture, advertising, and television with eclectic vignettes and uproarious sketches.  With no host, no narration and no set format, the imaginative, thought-provoking series gave free, creative reign to an astounding cast of actors, comedians and contributors who’d go on to far greater fame, including Chevy Chase (making his TV debut), Albert Brooks, Charles Grodin, Penny Marshall, Henry Winkler, Marshall Efron, Andy Rooney, writer Studs Terkel, David Steinberg, Carly Simon, Tiny Tim and many others.  And though it drew the ire of conservative critics who had it cancelled after two seasons, THE GREAT AMERICAN DREAM MACHINE is a heralded cultural time capsule ready to be unveiled after a 40+ year absence to discover a new generation of fans.
According to Alvin Perlmutter, Executive Producer of the original series with Jack Willis, “The Dream machine was born at a time in public television when producers were encouraged to explore new ways to use the medium – to be spontaneous — to stun, to shock, to amuse, to annoy, to anger – to give viewers a different way of seeing. It was a time when producers were constrained by neither sponsor concerns nor government pressures.  We were exploring alternatives to commercial television”
THE GREAT AMERICAN DREAM MACHINE set includes nearly every hilarious, unforgettable and trenchant moment from the show’s two season run – nearly 13 hours of peerless and thoughtful comedy and opinion, including Marshall Efron’s memorable “Lemon Pie from Scratch” sketch, Albert Brooks’ famous “School for Comedians”, Andy Rooney’s pre-“60 Minutes” opinion segments including his very first “In Defense of Politicians”, Chevy Chase’s “Singing Faces” mime, “Great American Weather Days”, a Dream Machine style weather forecast with a glance back at some of the greatest days in U.S Weather history, a “Great American Hero” profile of daredevil Evel Knievel, Elaine Stritch performing the Broadway classic “Here’s to the Ladies Who Lunch” from her role as Joanne in Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” and much, much more.
