New Thundercats MiniMates series 3

ThunderCats fans have been lapping up Icon Heroes’ new ThunderCats products like a kitten lapping up milk, and now the company has released a third set in their popular ThunderCats Minimates line. Produced in conjunction with Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum, the Series 3 box set rounds out the main band of Thunderan refugees, with Minimates of Tigra, Cheetara, Wilykit and Wilykat, as well as a mini-figure of RoBear Bill.

Each Minimate stands 2 inches tall with 14 points of articulation, and comes with key character accessories. Tygra comes with his bolo, Cheetara with her staff, and the Thunderkittens with their smoke bombs, lassos and hoverboards. (Did we mention RoBear Bill?) The set is exclusively at Action Figure Xpress (shopafx.com), and while Set 1 with Lion-O, Panthro, Jaga and Mumm-Ra is sold out there, Set 2 with Slythe, Jackalman, Vultureman and Monkian is still available! A robot suit that can help the elderly or disabled get around was given its global safety certificate in Japan on Wednesday, paving the way for its worldwide rollout.

The Hybrid Assistive Limb, or HAL, is a power-assisted pair of legs developed by Japanese robot-maker Cyberdyne, which has also developed similar robot arms.

A quality assurance body issued the certificate based on a draft version of an international safety standard for personal robots that is expected to be approved later this year, the ministry for the economy, trade and industry said.

The metal-and-plastic exoskeleton has become the first nursing-care robot certified under the draft standard, a ministry official said.

Battery-powered HAL, which detects muscle impulses to anticipate and support the user’s body movements, is designed to help the elderly with mobility or help hospital or nursing carer-givers to lift patients.

Cyberdyne, based in Tsukuba, northeast of Tokyo, has so far leased some 330 suits to 150 hospitals, welfare and other facilities in Japan since 2010, at 178,000 yen ($1,950) per suit per year.

“It is very significant that Japan has obtained this certification before others in the world,” said Yoshiyuki Sankai, the head of Cyberdyne.

“This is a first step forward for Japan, the great robot nation, to send our message to the world about robots of the future,” said Sankai, who is also a professor at Tsukuba University.

This has been a long time coming in Japan. With less people having children and longer life expectancy elderly will need as much help as they can get.

Lets not forget what this can do for possible handicap and war vets.

Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Diamond Select Toys Partner on Tomb Raider Minimates

Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Diamond Select Toys Partner on Tomb Raider Minimates

On March 5th, Square Enix launched Tomb Raider, which stars one of the world’s most popular video game characters, Lara Croft. The game tells her origin story, and depicts her journey from untried and untested 21-year-old to hardened survivor. To mark this new vision of a global icon, Diamond Select Toys have teamed up with developer Crystal Dynamics to create a line of Tomb Raider Minimates for their long-running toyline.

Currently in its 11th year, Minimates are a 2-inch block figure line that has encompassed dozens of brands, from the Avengers to the Ghostbusters to the Expendables. With 14 points of articulation and a ton of extra parts and accessories, Minimates offer a full play experience in a very compact package, and the world of Tomb Raider will take Minimates into unexplored territory when the first series of figures is released this summer.

The first series will have two overlapping assortments, one at Toys “R” Us and the other at comic shops and specialty stores, with a total of 12 different Minimates, to collect. A two-pack of Lara Croft with Molotov Scavenger will be available at all outlets, as will a “Battle Distressed” Lara with Armored Scavenger. Specialty stores and comic shops will also get two exclusive two-packs, in which Lara’s mentor Roth and Priest Malik are each paired with a top-secret character from the game. Finally, Toys “R’ Us will get their own exclusive sets, one an army-building pair of Scavengers, the other an army-building pair of mystery opponents.

Each two-pack will come with character-specific accessories, ranging from weapons to cell phones to Molotov cocktails all based on items that appear in the game itself. Look for the figures to arrive on store shelves this summer. Comic shops that can pre-order the specialty assortment can be found at comicshoplocator.com.
