Ledger was found dead in his fourth floor apartment at 421 Broome Street in SoHo NYC from what appears to be an overdose. Ledger was engaged to actress Michelle Williams, whom he met on the set of Brokeback Mountain. Their daughter, Matilda Rose, was born on October 28, 2005 in New York City. The child’s godparents are Ledger’s Brokeback costar Jake Gyllenhaal and Williams’ Dawson’s Creek castmate Busy Phillips.

On July 21, 2006, Ledger was officially confirmed to play iconic comic book villain The Joker in The Dark Knight, the sequel to the 2005 film Batman Begins, opposite fellow I’m Not There star Christian Bale. The film is set to debut on July 18, 2008.

This is a sad loss to the film community. Heath was so talented and he will surely be missed. While he will be best known for his film roles in Brokeback Mountain and the upcomming “Dark Knight”, I really enjoyed his first “major” film role – 10 Things I Hate About You. Seeing this movie and then seeing Brokeback really shows the depth he had as an actor. Both roles are complete oppositesand he pulled off extremely well. It is unfortunate that his death… due to whatever reason… will overshadow his undeniable talent.

it’s so sad that we here in NYC full of artistic talent are still faced with the addiction and everday availabity of deadly drugs!
I say if you have the talent and enjoy life please don’t run from it. with love and respect to all.

Definitely didn’t see this coming. Movies I liked him in were A Knights Tale and Monsters Ball. Dark Knight’s definitely my most anticipated movie of the year. Was skeptical with him first as the Joker but the trailer proved me wrong. He even said he locked himself in a hotel room for weeks to prepare for the role and got 2 hrs of sleep a day so maybe all that led to his addiction to prescription drugs.
